It depends on how you got the laceration. First of all, if the cut is smooth edged then simple bandaging along with direct pressure to slow the bleeding - if you are bleeding badly then elevate above your heart and find the pressure point under your bicep (muscle in the upper arm).

For rough edged cuts, you need stitches.

If it's not that bad, then some neosporin (antibiotic cream) would help keep infection from happening but either way you need to keep the area clean until a decent scab has developed.

FYI - if red streaks for the injury site start heading up your arm - go to Emergency Room.
