Permanent is cause by lack of oxygen due to aging process. Reversible goes undiagnosed caused by certain drugs, low BP, constiptation, poor nutrition, depression, dehydration, and hormone imbalances.

Possible causes of permanent senility  

  • lack of oxygen due to aging process 

  • Factors that deprive neurons of adequate oxygen (such as arteriosclerosis)

  • Degenerative structural changes (such as in Alzheimer's disease).

  • Dementia with Lewy bodies, or Pick's disease. Mini strokes (also known as vascular dementia)

  • Parkinson's disease

  • Huntington's disease

Possible causes of reversible senility

  • certain drugs 

  • Alcohol or substance use disorder.

  • Subdural hematomas, blood clots beneath the outer covering of the brain

  • Normal-pressure hydrocephalus, a buildup of fluid in the brain

  • poor nutrition

  • hormone imbalances or hypothyroidism
