First we must define "need", but if we say need as in physical survival the anwer is no. If we say need for emotional survival again I would say no. But here is the kicker. If you define emotional well being, long term physical health and positive social interaction as a requirement then sex is the first need. It should be noted that women are also effected by sex the same way as men. But it would seem to me, based on the studies I have seen, that men tend to get more out of the physical release and women tend to get more out of the emotional release. In general, sex is one of the most importaint factors in quality of life.
