sometimes when people take to deep a breathe unnecessarily, the alveolar ( air sacks responsible for gas exchange of carbon dioxide and oxygen ) get overworked and as an emergency action of pushing out excess air , the diaphragm forcefully pushes the lungs upwards instead of going downwards to allow the lungs to swell ( diaphragm is a muscle just below the lungs and goes downwards when we breathe in and upwards when we breathe out ).
Therefore , we get choked on the air since the diaphragm goes out of its rhythm.
Stage fright will cause this.
