Please don't wear panties to school. Pantyhose/Tights were made to be worn with or without panties (optional). That's why they replaced stockings (which only go up to the thigh, at most). Most tights have a cotton crotch which replaces the need to wear underwear with tights ;-)

I swim in nylon tan tights all the time. they can't really be seen in the water under your costume but if you don't feel comfortable then wear a costume that has a little skirt attached. my sister swims with full underwear under her costume, bra, panties and tights and it doesn't bother her who sees so just do what you feel.

it can be worn either way but you may want to put the panties over them so when you need the bathroom you will not have to undo the nylons to get your panties down. or you can keep them over the panties and when you have to go just slide the panties down to the tops of the nylons and go that way that is the way I do it. When we played volleyball in gym, we wore panties under the shorts and it sucked. They always showed no matter what panties they were. The girls on the actual volleyball team didn't use panties and wore just the shorts. When I finally got brave enough to try it - I agree - the best panties are none at all.

I don't know what you mean by "better to not wear tights". It's actually better to wear tights, it looks much more professional and clean. Another reason to wear tights is because if you are wearing pointe shoes that are just a bit too small and you are not wearing tights, you could get blisters around the back or your heel. If you are talking about modern dance, it is just a mandatory thing to not wear tights sometimes.
