Hair loss that doesn't grow back can be a natural process especially of men as they age commonly thought of as male pattern baldness. Alopecia on the other hand often has a cause but it isn't clearly understood but is usually thought of as a autoimmune disease where the body attacks its own hair follicles. And there is some indications that stress if a factor as well.
