A Ventilator: A ventilator is a machine which mechanically assists patients in the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide in and out of the body. It is similar to life support, but has a different job rather then to keep organs alive. There are many reasons people are placed on a ventilator, and most often, doctors try to keep the use of a ventilator to the shortest number of days possible because it is often difficult to wean a patient from a ventilator. Long term intubation (the tube in the throat that connects to a ventilator) can also damage the throat and vocal cords, and the lungs are more susceptible to infections. Some patients may be temporarily on a ventilator after surgery, an accident, or when the person is going into or has gone into respiratory arrest.
"Life-support" comprises all aspects of keeping a person alive who is in critical condition. It involves all machines, IVs, medications, etc. that keeps the organs such as the heart, liver, kidneys, etc. working until the person recovers or dies. It's also used when a person is in a coma.
So, therefore a ventilator and life-support are different.
I have a living will but if I get the virus I would want to be put on a ventilator. Would this be possible
