Vivien Leigh (b. 1913 in Darjeeling,then British India) was born Vivian Mary Hartley to Ernest Hartley, a British Officer in the Indian Cavalry. In 1931, she married Herbert Leigh Holman, becoming Vivian Holman. About 1934 she adopted "Vivian Leigh", using her husband's middle name as her stage name. In 1935 Alexander Korda signed her to a film contract, with the spelling of her name revised to "Vivien Leigh". Although she was successful as an actress, she led a life troubled by recurring bouts of tuberculosis, depression, and mental instability. She died in 1967.

Janet Leigh (b. 1927 in Merced, California, USA) was an only child. In 1946, her mother was working at a ski lodge where actress Norma Shearer was vacationing. Shearer was impressed by a photograph of Leigh, and arranged for the Leigh to be signed with the MCA talent agency. She later married actor Tony Curtis and is
the mother of the actress Jaime Lee Curtis. She died in 2004.
