Heavy drapes may need vacuuming once a week to stay ahead of dust. Lighter fabric will benefit from a good shaking to avoid tearing.

For curtains, take them down and remove the hooks. Place in your dryer with a dryer cloth like Bounce. The setting should be No Heat, Fluff only. This will remove the dust nicely. Washing curtains can cause other issues, so I have always either fluffed them or taken them to the dry cleaners for cleaning and ironing if they have pleats.
