Jet engines are not calibrated as such but get routine maintainance depending on the flying hours of the engine. They also undergo major overhaul and preformance runs during their life. But i think calibrate is the wrong term.
Thermometers are the instrument that is often filled with mercury, colored water, or alcohol. Most early thermometers were made with mercury.
The original plugs should be good for around 100,000 miles ( 160,000 ) kms. Take it from there.
