When a person is hanged, the person usually dies instantly. The goal of hanging is not to suffocate a person to death, but it actually just snaps your neck. However, there are odd cases when people survive the impact and his or her neck stays intact. In this case, they'd be able to live no longer than minute after the blood flowing from the neck to the brain is choked off.
