Note that the NYT crossword clue is "Thrice, to a pharmacist." "Thrice" means "three times" (Ter) - but not necessarily three times a day. (According to Wikipedia, "three times a day" would be T.I.D. [Ter in Die] and "three times a week" would be T.I.W.)
