As a medical assistant with an associates degree, I've worked in many doctor offices that we were trusted to have been taught and refreshed by the doctor we worked for to read the TB test. I don't understand being certified! Most offices could care less if you are a "Certified" Medical Assistant or not. Very expensive to be certified, doctors offices don't want to pay for it either.

Usually a needle is used to make a small bubble of fluid containing proteins (PPD) under the skin. 2-3 days later the test is read by looking for thickening of the skin at the injection site.
