Your CO2 builds up as a result of air trapping. CO2 and H2O (which is present throughout your body) make carbonic acid, which causes your pH to decrease (become acidotic). Your kidneys are one of the ways your body maintains its pH. Kidneys use a buffer system to help control pH. They make urine and since you are acidotic at the time of an Asthma attack, the pH is decreased.
