Salt is good for the body as it has a high iodine content. It also contains an important mineral...though to much can dehydrate your body and lead to high blood pressure.... hope this helps :) x

Retains salt, for one.when driking salty water, your body cells, not used to it, do osmose and then all the water from them leave, and they finally die. However this happen only when driking too much of too salty water. You need some salt in your body because it regulates certain functions in your body.

While sodium is an extremely important mineral for the body (no animal could live without it), salt in the form commonly consumed by humans can be detrimental to your health if consumed in excess. Table salt (Sodium-chloride, or NaCl) is very refined and not a natural source of sodium. Natural sources of salt contain several other minerals and elements that help the body absorb, process and excrete any excess sodium. Sodium and/or salt is also use widespread in commercially prepared foods, like frozen meals, canned vegetables, boxed foods, etc.

With all this excess sodium in the human diet, several bodily functions are negatively affected. Sodium and potassium must be in constant balance in the body (in fact, most of the body's energy is used to keep the 2 in balance). The excess salt causes an imbalance of sodium and potassium in the extracellular fluid (ECF, or the fluid that surrounds each and every cell in the body), which causes the movement of elements and minerals into and out of the cell to be affected. For example, extra waste could build up in cells. Also, the nervous system needs a good balance of sodium for nerves to fire correctly, so too much sodium can cause muscle spasms and weakness. Since the heart is the hardest working muscle in the body, it can cause heart attacks or palpitations. Too much salt can also cause high blood pressure by keeping the bodies water levels in the blood too high, which puts more pressure inside the arteries and veins.
