A life support machine is a machine that is used to help someone who for instance is in a coma and cannot breathe or eat for themselves. It gives them the air and nutrients that they need to survive. It also takes away any waste products like poo and urine.

Life support keeps the body alive through circulation. The machine involved is able to make respiration possible in order to keep basic functions working until the individual is able to regain full brain function and consciousness.
