legislation does not feel - it is inanimate
the legistlation might be a good idea (where it is based I do not know) but it sounds as though it gives authority to the patient over what happens to them.
By definition nationalism is an extreme form of patriotic feelings, principles, or efforts, especially marked by a feeling of superiority over other countries. Self determination is the principle in international law that nations have the right to freely choose their sovereignty and international political status with out external compulsion or interference. I would not say that these two are "the same thing," but I also wouldn't say they are opposites. A Nationalist can also fit the definition of self determination. The same way one defined by self determination could also be a Nationalist. Just because you feel superior to someone does not deem you unable to believe they have the right to freely choose their government, etc.

The Pain Scale in the US is a simple self-measurement "from 0 to 10" on which a patient ranks the pain they feel "in this moment".
Self-Medication is when the patient tries taking different things instead of seeing a doctor. One common way people self-medicate is by using alcohol or drugs (tobacco counts as a drug). The reason that self-medication is not a good idea is that the patient is almost never a medical doctor, and does not really understand what is harmful to the body! Drugs and alcohol might make you feel better for a little while, but they are habit-forming, and pretty soon you don't just feel bad, but are a drug addict or alcoholic on top of that!

Our self-image is formed through a combination of our experiences, interactions with others, societal influences, and our own perceptions and beliefs about ourselves. It is shaped by both internal factors (such as thoughts, feelings, and attitudes) and external factors (such as feedback from others and societal standards).
