• Ecstasy increases the secretion of ADH from the pituitary gland. This means that the kidneys absorb too much water than the body actually needs allowing less urine to be passed through the body. This causes the urine to be concentrated. Drinking too much water can cause the brain to swell, inducing a coma.

Kidney function is inhibited while you are high on ecstacy so less urine will end up in your bladder. This is the main reason why you need to sip just enough water to replace what you sweat but don't drink too much because it will dilute your blood stream and your kidneys will not be able to regulate it. Once the ecstasy wears off the kidneys will catch up with what they missed out so it may appear that you are now producing large amounts of urine whereas in fact you have just timeshifted it forwards.

it stops them from working, so drinking lots of water when you've taken ecstasy is very dangerous. you kidneys will not process the water and let it out of your body, so your cells, in particular you brain cells, swell and you could die.. your body does try to make you vomit it out, but drinking too much may leave you with no option other than the swelled brain cells, putting you into a coma.

some drugs have a diuretic effect. which means they will dehydrate the body by producing more urine (e.g. most stimulants). others reduce (or lead to a reduction in) urine production...

so it depends on the substance.

it causes urinary retention
drink something like Gatorade tho and it might help.
