Salt water has been used for centuries for it's cleaning and healing properties but there's nothing mystical about it. Body tissues can be temporarily affected by the salt water in much the same way that using a saline nasal spray helps to clear a blocked nose and the Epsom (magnesium sulfate) can increase the amount of water in the intestine, making bowel movement more likely and possibly less painful. The difference is the amount of salt or magnesium in Epsom salts is many times greater than in a saline spray. This could cause health problems since most people get plenty of salt in their diet and introducing it in a colon cleanse will still allow your body to absorb much of the salt. There are health risks involved in using Epsom salts internally so be careful.
