(I am not a doctor) ?I can't say for certain how to STOP Lamictal but I can tell you that during the past 10 years of taking it for seizures, one particular neurologist got this bright idea to lower my dosage from 600mgs to 300mgs per day. ?Apparently my levels were too high (which is redundant, since they FDA still hasn't set a decent precedent on the serum levels of that drug). ?
Now here's where I had a problem. ?She said to stop...yep...stop taking it for 3 days and then start up again at 300mgs. ?Yeah, my body was NOT happy with me. ?It was used to 600mgs a day during the previous 6 years. ?I felt like, for lack of a better word, CRAP. ?No energy, no focus, no ability to concentrate. ?The first day off felt like an entire week. ?I couldn't remember which day it was and I was convinced that things I did that morning happened days ago. ?Not much easier to describe than that, but if you've been taking it, I think you know. ?So I ended up calling the neuro on the morning of the 2nd day and after hearing how incoherent I sounded, she said I could take 150mgs till the next day. ?That being said, if you do have to or choose to stop taking Lamictal, please do it SLOWLY. ?I wouldn't wish that kind of feeling on anyone.
There is no known antidote for Lamictal so the best way to stop it is to stop taking it.
