either you use surgical procedures or you cough it up. stick a spoon in your mouth to trigger your gag reflex and see if it gets coughed up

There is a tool for doing so. It is called a staple decleater.
To remove the so called staple to replace the gaer shift knob,which I presume you are trying to do. Just use a very small screwdriver and pop it out. The clip is in there laterally not vertically. Itcomes out very easy.
Hey, I just had this problem. What you have to do is, remove a staple-type piece that is located on the bottom part of the shifter knob on the side that is facing the radio. Once you remove that staple type piece, the you are able to just slip the knob off by lifting it up. Hope that was helpful. jumpman552004@yahoo.com

This may not be the current way, but when my Dad's brother got a fishbone stuck in his throat, they told him to swallow vinager to soften the bone. And by the way, its, "How can you remove a fishbone stuck in your throat?" I'm 11, so my Dad is not old-old
When a paper goes to be recycled there are usually magnets there to remove anything metallic. But to be sure I would try to remove it.
