Honestly, I know this is not going to be helpful... but no one can tell you how to know. He may have never stopped loving me. No one cheats because they just stopped loving you. He could have been bored and needed some excitement in his life. He could have been going through a mid-life crisis. Many things can cause infidelity and you can't change what happened no matter how much it hurts the both of you. The important thing is not to decide if he still loves you, but do you still think your relationship has a chance. Is your relationship strong enough to make it through an affair?
ANSWER:
I think the best way to describe it is " if your husband really loves you, will he ever cheat on you" But as usual it depends on each individual, some might say they still love their wife but the sex life is a bit boring to them, so having a new woman in the picture will be the right answer. Some will say the wife is to busy with everything and his needs are not being met anymore, some will say I love my wife dearly but having a friend with benefit can sparks his life. Now if this answer the question you are wondering it might give you a different answer.
Like what I said it depends on each individual, so when man or woman have affairs, they will justify it as something is not being done in their marriage. And unfortunately even those couples who have a good relationship one spouse will still cheat one way or the other.

separation from the spouse
Yes, often times a separation is a good thing when one spouse has had an affair. It gives each spouse a chance to stand back and reflect on how they feel and if they really love their spouse or whether to move on from the marriage. Once a spouse has cheated it is difficult to earn the trust back from the other spouse. Perhaps put a few months limit on the separation and then meet to discuss how both of you feel about each other. The quote, 'Absence makes the heart grow fonder' may apply in this case. Sometimes spouses don't know how lucky they are and how much they love their spouse until they are no longer there.
The same as they were prior to the 'legal separation', except for intimate relations with his spouse...unless she/he agrees.

You would probably feel sad.
The way you know if your spouse still loves you is by the way they act in front of you. Does he/she still treat you like the first time you started going out. Does he/she get mad when he/she sees you with another person, if so they still care about you.
