Good question. I dated during the 50s and it was classed as "going steady" and you usually got the guys class ring or his football ring. If you split-up you were to give the ring back. These days they don't do those things, so I would think if you are dating almost every weekend and doing things together off and on during the week it can be classed as having a boyfriend/girlfriend. If in doubt you can say, "Are we going on out on a steady basis." You deserve the answer because if you are going steady it's sort of like being engaged and you aren't to date other people.
