You should drink lots of pure water, no coffee or soda, black tea etc. Lots means 1 glass every hour or so.

If you haven't been eating a lot of fibre, start it by SLOWLY increasing the amount of fruits and veggies. Doing this too rapidly might cause bad abdominal cramps.

Fibres are what improves the bowel movements and speed up the digestion so you won't feel constipated - as long as you don't forget the water!

Also start eating fruits high in enzymes and fermented milk products (especially all natural yogurt!) to increase the amount of lactobacilli (the good ones) in the intestines so they start to replace the bad ones and generally improve your intestinal flora.

If your body overreacts to dairy products, you can also make a yogurt oneself with soy milk. Tastes different but helps, too.

Colon cancer is mostly preventable. This is a price you pay for so called 'modern' life style. You are forgetting outdoor games at the cost of computer games. Outdoor games will also protect you from one of the most dreaded condition called as 'Atherosclerosis'. Which will lead to heart attack in addition to colon cancer. Non veg food is very low in fibers. So it isalmostall digested and there is little residual part for colon. So colon function is adversely affected. Food getstagnatedin colon for longer time and you do not know how many types of toxins are formed there. In long run your immunity gives away as it also get 'old' with age and at time stop killing cancer cell. So to prevent colon cancer, you must eat plenty of salad in food.( Sayat-leastone kg/day.) Here the word of caution for raw fruits and vegetables to be eaten. Specially in developing countries, they are contaminated with various microorganisms. Many of them are pathogenic. So all most all vegetables and fruits should be washedthoroughly with neutral soap dissolved in soft water. ( Neutral soap meanssodium salt of Fatty acid without coloring and flouring agent anddangerous artificial scents.) ( Some of the artificial scents may be carcinogenic to skin and you do not know.) Alternatively if soft water is not available at hand a pinch or two of neutral or plane detergent may be added to water and vegetables and fruits should bethoroughly scrubbed to take out the germs on it. This will remove theinsecticidesalso to large extent. Soap and detergent reduce the surfacetensionof water and wash away almost all germs. Any amount of washing will not remove them 'all' with plane or 'sterile' water. Then remove the soap or detergent by 'potable' water. For this you may have to change water 3 to 4 times. Then as your hands are also germ free During washing process, get the cutting knife cleaned with your usual utensil cleaner including handle. Please remember that you washed it yesterday only is no excuseand as bacteria has already grown on it if you have not cleaned the knife after use.( Bacteria do not grow on metal.) ( Very 'small' food particle for you may be 'big' treat for bacteria.) Then plate you are cutting vegetables and fruits should be cleaned there and then only. Nutritional advantages of fruits andvegetablesare too many to describe here. They will give you almost all Vitamins and minerals essential to your body and will prevent from many other type of cancers and Diabetes and heart attack also. If you take 2 to 4 teaspoonful of Isabgol husk then chances of getting cancer of colon will still drastically get reduced to near zero. (Unless you areeatingsome carcinogenic chemical, in your diet.) How to 'drink' Isabgol needs separate page to describe. With these precautions enjoy the non-veg food you like.
