There are multiple affects to the detonation of nuclear and radiological weapons. Those in the epicenter of the blast may be completely wiped, equating to a massive losses in human life. Those surviving the initial blast in the outer perimeters may have severe burns. Those survivors and others even farther out may/will have radiation exposure. Evident by Hiroshima, Nagasaki and Chernobyl case studies multiple generations following the blast will show higher incidence rates of cancers. Models of full scale thermonuclear war also include the environmental effects of a nuclear winter. Other worst case outcomes are the rendering of large areas uninhabitable and the extinction of its native flora and fauna.
