5 HTP, like any other drugs (the natural drugs are still drugs with chemical effects), has side effects. I've taken for two days the recommended dosage and I had two terrible nights. Went on internet to search about it (something I've should have done before trying 5 HTP) and found that I had a serious serotonin overdose, which might sound nice, but it's actually very dangerous...

Info found on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5-HTP: "5-HTP raises blood serotonin levels, and because of the risks associated with elevated levels it should only be taken under the advice of a medical professional. For instance, elevated blood serotonin levels are associated with cardiac valve failure and acute or chronic pulmonary hypertension. Side effects of 5-HTP may include nausea, constipation, gas, drowsiness, decreased sex drive, anxiety, numbness, paresthesia, breathing problems, palpitations, chest pain, hallucinations and insomnia. 5-HTP can also have adverse interactions with other natural and traditional drugs."

Some people say they're doing ok with 5 HTP. Anyway, if you're healthy, just have a balanced life and avoid all kinds of external substances.

I should say that I've tried many "illegal" drugs and none had such a strong terrifying effect on me like this 5 HTP.

I got really scared about it - we must not think that "natural pills" are harmless, they have nothing natural in it, they are drugs found in nature. And another lesson on this experience: always see an expert or at least search on internet about it before doing or taking any "natural pill".

Hope this helps!
