I would imagine that people gain more weight during the winter than they would during the summer. Having nice weather outside influences people to be more productive and active. Also, you have that "working out for a nice swimsuit body" to look out for.

During the winter, it's easier for someone to curl up on the couch or in bed with a blanket after eating or all day without or without eating. The comfort of being warm in bed or on the couch wrapped in a blanket is very nice.
