Here are opinions: * Not all of them do, but often it will make their day, or if you are in luck, maybe they had been hoping somebody would just approach them and you'll hit it off! * YES...OF COURSE! * Not all of us. Whenever I'm in a coffee shop I'm studying and the last thing on my mind is a man hitting on me. * I'd say a casual hello and maybe a how are you couldn't hurt, especially if you mention that you don't want to disturb her if she is busy. Sometimes we want to be interrupted, sometimes we need a break from studying, but if we really can't take a study break it gives us a chance to say its not a good time without feeling rude or awkwardly trying to find a subtle way to tell you to buzz off. Look at the Book Look at what kind of book she is reading- if she is reading fiction, there is a possibility. If she is reading nonfiction (especially if she's taking notes) she's probably studying and you need to sotay away. But if she is reading fiction, see if her eyes are actually scanning the page or just staring at it- if she's just staring (or if she looks up a lot and scans the room), she may not mind if you ask to sit down or at least for her name [even if you know it]. If she's reading romantic fiction- if she's dreamy-eyed or smiling go for it; if she's just sitting there neutrally she's longing for something and you might go for it, just be careful. If it's anything else fiction, use your best judgement. Don't bug her if she's engrossed, but don't be a complete stranger.
Look at her face Is she engrossed in the book? Is her head or are her eyes moving rapidly as she flips the pages? Then stay away from her, because she's busy. If she doesn't look committed to the book then ask, especially if you know the book. Girls are really different, and the same girl can react differently at different times , so I'd say risk it, and apologize if you've clearly interrupted her. Also, if she's listening to music as well, don't bother asking, because she's tuning out the world.
When you sit down, first ask her if she's like some conversation, even if you've read the book, that way she can politely refuse. I wouldn't be completely turned off by nonfiction, either, unless she has notes out; some girls really dig nonfiction.
Go ahead, make it a day. I don't see why you would in the first place because she is reading and not exactly doing something else. It doesn't look good to me but hey you never know what she would say.
