Robert Stroud 'The Birdman of Alcatraz' was born in Seattle, Washington, January 28, 1890. He had two half-sisters from his mother Elizabeth's previous marriage. They had a son (Robert's brother) Marcus. Their father Ben Stroud was an alcoholic and extremely abusive and Robert Stroud ran away from home at the age of 13 and ended up in Jueno, Alaska. At the age of 18 he became the pimp of a 36 year old prostitute named Kitty O'Brian in Cordova, Alaska.

Because Robert Stroud was so famous re 'Birdman of Alcatraz' his brother's whereabouts remain in the shadows. Marcus was born in 1897 which would make him 111 years old today so we can safely say he has passed on, but there is no record of what Marcus' personal life was like or where he is buried. It was said in a biography of Marcus' infamous brother Robert that Marcus was to visit Robert at Alcatraz after not seeing each other for eight years. Robert was looking forward to seeing his brother and was very excited and while eating with the other prisoners Robert became fairly vocal about it and a guard deemed fit that Robert was talking too loud and took away the visitation right. Robert and Marcus never did see each other.

Robert Stroud died of natural causes on November 21, 1963 and is buried in the Masonic Cemetery in Metropolis, Illinois.
