You don't necessarily HAVE to but it dries out your skin quickly, lessens your ability to tan and probably even more unhealthy for your skin. Also, I've found if you don't use lotion you kind of stick to the bed and it's very uncomfortable.

you should never get a rash! i recommend seeing a doctor and then find a new tanning company. ^untrue. A rash after tanning can be due to several different factors. The most likely being heat flush, when you lay down for too long under the UV lamps, your skin can get itchy. I would try moving around a little more on the bed, it could also be due to not using a lotion, or your skin being to dry.

It is recommended that you wait at least a few weeks but you can. Indoor tanning you would have to wait longer. Just be careful is you are putting SPF or lotion on. If it gets into the piercing it could get infected and that is VERY painful.
