You can wear any fabric you like during your period, it makes no difference.
What does make a difference is whether the design of your clothing works with the fabric to keep you comfortable. You might perspire more during menstruation, so if you're wearing a synthetic close-woven or close-knit fabric that doesn't 'breathe', the design will need to be loose, or sleeveless, so that you have good airflow keeping your body cool.
This applies, of course, to non-menstruating people in situations such as exertion, stress, or warm conditions, where they are likely to perspire more than usual.
In either case, it's good to dress in layers. If you're spending time outside in the warm as well as inside, in airconditioning, always team light, breathing clothes with a jacket or coat so that you can adjust your body temperature easily whenever necessary.
Whether at work, at school, at home, shopping, or at social occasions, being comfortable and knowing you look good means you'll be operating at your best.
Wearing clothes that make you uncomfortable puts you at a disadvantage, whatever the time of the month.
