Castor oil may induce labor, but it should not be taken without first consulting your doctor. Only your doctor will know you precise situation and will know best what you should do.
One woman's story: I was 37 weeks and 2 days when i took castor oil i was also 70% effaced and 3 centimeters dilated i took 3 tablespoons of castor oil at approximately 1:30 p.m and read online that it may take 2 hours before anything starts to happen so i took a small nap when i woke still nothing it had been 3 hours by now all of a sudden i started having some cramps and contractions then i got the runs (normal for castor oil) after the runs died down a little bit my mother in law thought i should go in and be checked (about 11:00 p.m) so my husband and i went to the hospital she monitored me for an hour and said i had not made to much progress i was then (approx.12:45a.m) 3 1/2 centimeters and 90% effaced she wanted to leave me for another hour and check me again i didn't want to be at the hospital until 2:00 in the morning so i decided to go home until my contractions were closer together (the hospital is about 20 minutes away from where we live) we stopped at McDonald's cause i was starving and i told my husband i felt like i had to use the restroom again so hurry up and get me home so he did i got home went straight to the bathroom and had a gush of blood I WAS IN LABOR at about 1:57 a.m my husband headed me right back down to the hospital (I didn't even get to eat) since there was no traffic he got us there in 10 minutes i was gone from the hospital for about 45 minutes and when i got back she checked me again i was 9 centimeters 100% effaced and had a bulging bag15 minutes later after they gave me a spinal for the pain and broke my water and 3 pushes later i had a healthy baby girl at 6 lbs 6 ozs and 18 1/2 in.
No it will not induce you if you are not dilated first. I tried it at 36 weeks and nothing happened, not even the runs. ("Thank god) I am 37 weeks on Tuesday and am now dilated 1 and 50% effaced. So I just took 2 tablespoons of the castor oil. It has only been a hour but so far nothing has happened. I am crossing my fingers though.
Castor oil is not a recommended dietary supplement for pregnant mothers, since it can induce vomiting and diarrhea. You could wait until your baby is as fully formed as s/he can be in the womb, and wait for your body to listen to the baby's signal that it's time to be born. Natural labour will follow. Human gestation is normal between 37 and 42 weeks.
You can cause yourself to go into preterm labor is you take Castor Oil before you are 30 weeks pregnant. It is suggested that you do not drink this while you are pregnant.
Not necessarily! I tried it and all it did was make me have an increadibly loose bowl movement! I would NOT suggest it, it also will make you very very nauseated! I would try other at home remedies first. :) Good luck!
No I have 5 kids and NEVER went into labor naturally, I tried castor oil several times and it did not work. If you are 2 cm already walking will work!! It might not work right away but do it everyday twice a day and it should get u going maybe slowly maybe faster but it will work!
Yes, @ 37 weeks you are considered full term.
what was the date 37 weeks ago
what was the date 37 weeks ago
You are still a couple weeks off of wanting to have ur baby. If i were you I would wait one more week...i know that sounds like alot but im 2cm dialated 60 percent effaced and 33 weeks and they put me in the hospital and on restricted bed rest....my doctor told me im not leaving till im 37 weeks....give ur baby the best chance...sides caster oil is a horrible thing to do...i tried it with my daughter and was sick for 3 days...never even gave me a contraction....nipple stimulation works wonders...
7 times 37 = 259 days.
If the baby has reached full term and you are pretty much ready to deliver, a little castor oil probably won't hurt. Many people claim that this is a valid and helpful way to facilitate delivery. Others say it does nothing. In general, it does nothing if you aren't pretty much ready to deliver. You should review this with your doctor or the delivery room staff of your hospital before you take any action. Considering that a baby is not considered "full term" until 37 weeks I would not suggest taking castor oil until you are at least 37 weeks (after consulting your doctor) Even though you are dilated to a 1, it does not mean that you will be going into labor any time soon. You can be dilated to a 4 and carry a baby for several more weeks. Even though it is proven that castor oil is more effective than some other natural induction methods, it is also debatable on how safe it is. Most doctors do not recommend castor oil until you are over your due date. Some other natural ways that you can help speed things up are: sex, spicy foods, pineapple (helps ripen the cervix), red raspberry leaf tea, walking, and most of all! Just relax!!! Your time will come when the baby is ready!!
Yes, its normal not to have contractions yet. 37 weeks is considered "full term" but a full term pregnancy is 37-42 weeks.
