No. Combining any SSRI (most of the newer anti-depressants) with tramadol can cause seratonin syndrome, which can be lethal.

I went to see a new physician once, other than my pain doctor. He did a drug test. The only things I had taken were, hydrocodone, Xanax and Tramadol. When the test came back, he asked me if I take antidepressants. I don't. It had to be the tramadol that showed up as a tryciclic antidepressant. Couldn't have been the others. SO, my answer is absolutely Yes, tramadol will show up as a tricyclics AD. It is noted in the literature that it does have antidepressant properties. Whether that is related, I am unsure. NREMT-P
