∙ 14y agoMy son is currently on Augmentin and we were told that it needs to be refrigerated because if it is left at room temperature for more than 9 hours it loses its potency.

∙ 14y ago.AnswerAmoxicillin does not have to be refrigerated, but refrigeration improves the taste. Leaving it out on the counter for a day makes no difference. However, if your bottle says "amoxicillin/clavulanate" which is the generic name for Augmentin, it is extremely important that you refrigerate. Take a look at your bottle - if you have amoxicillin/clavulanate or augmentin, you'll need to call the doctor to get a new script.In general, most medications that have been left out of refrigeration will be fine to use if kept cold again within 24 hours; this assumes it was kept at room temperature and not near a heat source,
