I just got off the phone to the doctor that gave me the radioactive iodine treatment in regards to menstrual cycle. He said that the radio iodine treatment itself does not affect the pituitary gland (secretes menstrual and thyroid hormones) per se, but because most patients are taken off their anti-thyroid medications for approximately 5 days prior to treatment and 5 days post-treatment, this may have an affect on the menstrual cycle. He didn't specify whether the cycle is shortened or elongated though. However, other websites have eluded that increase thryoid hormone stimulation will increase the cycle duration, however my doctor did not specify. I hope that helps, because I have been searching for the answer for a bit before calling my doctor. By the way, this assumes that you are not pregnant/sexually active.
