Flecainide acetate is a class Icantiarrhythmic agentused to prevent and treattachyarrhythmias(abnormal fast rhythms of theheart). It is used to treat a variety of cardiac arrhythmias including paroxysmalatrial fibrillation(episodic irregular heartbeat originating in the upper chamber of theheart), paroxysmalsupraventricular tachycardia(episodic rapid but regular heartbeat originating in the atrium), andventricular tachycardia(rapid rhythms of the lower chambers of the heart). Flecainide works by regulating the flow ofsodiumin the heart, causing prolongation of thecardiac action potential.

I hope to have a proper answer to this question soon. I was prescribed 100mg flecainide twice a day, everything seemed to be fine. After a month I noticed that I had gone into atrial fibrillation and since I knew the onset was very recent I took three 100mg flecainide as advised by my doctor. I went back to sleep and when I woke up my arrhythmia was gone but I felt a little unwell. I checked my BP and is was 190/105 which I found almost unbelievable and quite frightening. I did my best to stay calm and have a stress free day and it slowly fell but I noticed that my usual systolic pressure was a lot higher than usual 140 - 150 / 75 instead of my usual average of 125/75. I have temporarily stopped taking the flecainide and my systolic BP has fallen by 10 - 15 in the last two days. I will be seeing my doctor soon and find out if there is anything different that needs to be done to avoid arrhythmia and high BP. Male, 46, lone paroxysmal AF (four times in five years), BP usually 125/75, resting pulse 55.
Firstly it will depend on why you are taking flecainide. If the reason or another condition precludes exercise the answer is clearly NO.However if you are taking flecainide for a reason which does not preclude exercise then the answer is YES. Of course almost all heart conditions will benefit from appropriate exercise.Using myself as an example - and there are others. I have atrial fibrillation and take flecainide 150mg as a "pill in pocket" (ie when I have episodes). My episodes generally last 4 to 20 hours, sometimes much longer. I have them 25% to 50% of the time and they started about 10 or so years ago.I exercise fairly vigorously most days of the week but now limit the time to 25 to 45 minutes per session. I go kayaking for longer but this is much less intense. I jog, cycle do some weights and kayak. I generally feel much better for exercising.I therefore take flec most days. I was on regime of taking 150mg flec morning and evening - to give a steady dose. I continued to exercise. I have found that for me taking flec as a "pill on pocket" works much better and I take less.I will exercise when in AF. I take the flecainide shortly after a bout of AF starts. However I do not take when exercising, I wait till I have finished. Two reasons for this. Firstly most recommendation suggests rest after taking so the chance is it will not be as effective if taken when exercising, despite the idea that taking it as soon as possible is better. Secondly exercise can cause my pulse to revert to NSR though this is rare now that my exercise periods are shorter.See my blog at http://arrhythmiarules.blogspot.com/Endurance exercise is generally shown to be not helpful for AF.

I don't know but I sure hope not because the druggist has been giving me the wrong strength for over a month.I was taking double the dosage that was prescribed by my Dr.The druggist didn't have the 50 mg. so he gave me 100 mg.& FORGOT to tell me to cut them in half. And when my Dr. upped my script to 150 mg.I was taking 300 mg. I have to go for a cardiogram today. Sharon
