There was a study in the Golestan Province of Iran where people drink very hot tea that suggest it can increase the risk. Warm tea is consider 149 F /65 C and below. Hot tea is about 156 F / 69 C and had double the esophageal cancer risk. Very hot tea is 158 F / 70 C and above and had 8 times increased risk of cancer(see related link).
