From what i have read urine is sterile. It can actually be good for you.

If they have a disease you would obviously be smart not to drink it!

Follow-up: I saw a show in 2013 in which it was said that scientists have discovered a link between the drinking of urine and longevity... although they failed to say whose you should drink. :)

Because urine is primarily water, drinking it in small amounts is probably harmless unless you've been exposed to medications or environmental toxins that your body is desperately trying to eliminate. When faced with life-threatening dehydration, drinking urine may make some sense, since the temporary benefits are likely to outweigh the risks. However, this last ditch effort will be short-lived, since the kidneys stop making urine as the dehydration worsens. i'm sure taste will be questionable of course.....

Urine from a healthy person is sterile, and poses no harm to the body. If you have normal functioning kidneys, they should be able to handle the extra metabolites. Urine from a person with urinary tract infection contains bacteria, and these might cause sickness (infection) if someone drinks it. Generally, one should avoid ingesting other peoples bodily fluids or secretions, since these might contain virus or bacteria.

The purpose of urine is to remove things from your body, so as a rule of thumb, I'd say don't. In a survival situation, this will kill you, but if this is a recreational activity [ you sick f@ck ;) ] then it should be alright once in a while. I'd say go for dilute urine that is clear, rather than the yellow urine. This should have fewer things dissolved in it.

It can be drunk . there care survival books that state this. However, its not recommended as the norm as it does contain body wastes

It's not unless the person have a STI. The urine is sterile. Of course it's not good to drink big amounts.
