Loosing taste buds may become apparent after a visit to your dentist where a local anesthetic was administered. A condition called paresthesia may be the root [pun intended] origin. This is when sensory nerves in the mouth have been blocked by the reversal of the normal sodium transport mechanisms. This condition is mostly reversible and taste returns within a period of up to one or two weeks. Unfortunately some nerves can suffer permanent trauma and full taste may never return. This condition is known as permanent paresthesia.

i do not think that you can have your taste buds removed. without your taste buds, you won't taste anything while you are chewing or eating something.
