Most women complain about feeling bloated during pregnancy. Much of the "bloat" is caused by hormones, weight gain and the huge increase in the mothers blood volume. Bloating can be somewhat helped, by reducing your salt intake.

However, if you are experiencing extreme swelling of your extremities (hands and feet) that is not better after resting, elevating your legs and feet and cutting back on salt and salty foods, or are experiencing headaches, high blood pressure, visual abnormalities or dizzy spells - this could be a sign of pre-eclampsia and you need to be evaluated by your doctor or midwife ASAP.
