Amoxicillin is Penicillin related and you can eat normally when you are taking this drug. It is usually taken 8 hourly. It may be benificial though to stop drinking alcohol while taking. It is important to finish the course even though you may feel better after a few days. If you stop taking too soon then the infection may return and this time you may find Amoxicillin will not work. You will need an alternative med. If you were taking Flucloxacillin, then you can not eat for 30 mins before taking and for 30 minutes after taking.
Yes, It is common practice by family physicians to prescribe a combination of Amoxacillin with a decongestant, or a decongestant and broncholytic i.e. Maxifed (Pseudoephedrine/Guafenesin).
Mononucleosis is a viral disease, it is caused by a virus. Amoxicillan is an antibiotic, which means it kills disease causing bacteria. It would not affect the mono virus. So, the answer is no.
Amoxacillin is an antibiotic, and not a drug that can or is abused,so its not usually tested for with drug agency's and employers,I am a drug support worker and in 12 years I have never even seen a test strip for antibiotics as I say its not a drug that is abused as it has no stimulants or mental effects. And has never in my experience been responsible for false positives of any kind.
