The distal ends of sensory neurons are called dendrites. Dendrites receive incoming signals or stimuli from the environment through sensory receptors, such as in the skin, eyes, ears, and other sensory organs. These signals are then transmitted to the cell body of the neuron and eventually to the central nervous system for processing.
Small distal branches of an axon are called axon terminals or synaptic terminals. These structures are specialized endings of the axon that release neurotransmitters to communicate with other neurons or muscle cells. The axon terminals facilitate the transmission of signals between neurons at synapses.
The distal epiphysis is the end of a long bone that is farthest from the center of the body, like the end of the femur near the knee joint. It is covered with articular cartilage and plays a role in joint formation and movement.
Proximal is the opposite of distal.
Distal
Yes. Distal means farther from the point of attachment or from the center of the body. So the knee is distal to the hip, and the food would be distal to the knee and so on.
Fingers are distal to the arm in reference to the body.
Yes. Distal means farther from the point of attachment or from the center of the body. So the knee is distal to the hip, and the food would be distal to the knee and so on.
The distal tubule
The radius is proximal to the phalanges. The phalanges are distal to the radius. The radius is proximal to the phalanges. The phalanges are distal to the radius.
The humerus is proximal, not distal, to the thumb.
It is distal to it....
