Go to the main menu, (story, brawl,etc.),and press x + up. That will take you to the code input. You can get cheat codes on IGN.com
with action replay but if you are talking about the store code that is for cards and you can't put letters in.
first things first, you have to get one. When you do get one, put it into your ds, and put the Pokemon game that you have into it. Then the title screen should come up. Find the code that you want to input, and click on the *. Then at the top of the screen it should say add new code. click on it, and add your new code.

You don't. They're stored on the disk and cannot be updated. You have to get a newer version for new codes and the ability to update.Edit: You can only input AR codes on an earlierversion of the game. It must be before v1.2 for you to be able to input codes.
You don't add the zero automatically, but you can display a leading zero by beginning the input with an apostrophe (') to indicate that you want to display text, instead of a number.
