Cartoon Network rarely gives specific reasons as to why they cancel their shows and Foster's is apparently no exception. There are many opinions as to why but none can be pinned down as fact. It ran for 5 years, 6 seasons w/ 79 episodes (which is a good amount for CN) and despite being award winning CartoonNetworkdecided to end the run. Simple as that.

If you'll notice, CartoonNetworkusually doesn'tletoriginal programming run that long, regardless of how popular it is.

Merchandising is usually a big thing with Cartoon Network, if they can't createrevenuewith merchandising rights via toys, videos, dolls etc, then a show's lifespan is occasionally shorter than others.

However ratings are usually the deciding factor for a show's cancellation. If a show has no viewers they can't sell ad time and the network makes no money. There's no doubt that after 6 seasons Foster's haddwindlingviewership, it's rare for a show to increase viewers year after year after 6 seasons.
