∙ 9y agoIn the original 1990s anime, Toei Animation introduced a subplot to the second's season's primary storyline--that of Usagi and Mamoru (Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask) breaking up. Well, to be fair, it wasn't so much of a mutual breakup as a complete and total bombshell dropped on Usagi.
She had no idea that Mamoru had started having vivid, perhaps even prophetic dreams of him starting to get married to Usagi, only for her to transform into Princess Serenity and be pulled into an abyss. A voice told him that if he didn't leave Usagi, she would die.
Despite not knowing the source of the voice or the dreams, Mamoru, fearing for Usagi's life, did just that--of course, without telling her why, lest it somehow endanger her.
This subplot was not present in the manga or in the new anime, Sailor Moon Crystal.
