Well as it is the first human who touches the note when it is dropped in the human world becomes the new owner. It didnt really matter to Ryuk because the note that he dropped wasn't in fact his. At the time it was it belonged to Sidoh and towards the end of the series Sidoh come to take the notebook back witch leaves two notebooks in the human world (not including ryuks).
Getting to the point when it is time for the current owner of the death note it is the job of the shinigami possesssing that person to write his/her name into his/her notebook. In a sense it was eaither Light's time to die anyway or Ryuk was fed up of waiting for light to die so he wrote his name in the notebook early.
If you mean why did Light HAVE to die then it's obvious because Light or rather Kira was an evil mass murderer who didnt really create the "perfect world" the bad people were still out there they are just too afraid to commit crimes. Light was the bad guy but i kinda liked his personality.

Ryuk never had a side. He said in the begging that he wasnt Going to take anyones side. Then he said he wasnt improving on what Light was doing or L, and Near and Mello. He said one day he was going to write Lights name in His own Death Note. And he did. That was the ending. Which i cried for hours for D:
He is a Shinigami and has no last name.
Ryuk kills Light by writing his name in the Death Note.
Yes. He was shot by Matsuda and as Ryuk said when it came time for Light to die, he would write Light's name is his Death Note.
Ryuk and Rem .
umm... ryuk's Japanese name is ryuuku if that's what ur asking
Yes. Ryuk's- Light's name was written then Ryuk took it back to the Shinigami world. Rem's- Burned by Near. Sidoh's- Burned by Near. Gelus's- In ground. [not 100 percent sure]
L's name was written in Rem's notebook and Light's name was written in Ryuk's
Ryuk is a character in the illustrated manga series "Death Note." He is a Shinigami, a god of death who drops a Death Note, a powerful notebook capable of killing anyone whose name is written in it, into the human world, sparking a series of events involving the protagonist Light Yagami.
Ryuk wrote his name in the notebook before the bullet wounds could kill him.
Yes. He gets shot several times by Matsuda but ultimately Ryuk writes his name in his Death Note and Light suffers a heart attack.
In the Death Note movie series, starting with the first, the differences start early. For example, in the movie Light has a girlfriend and didn't have one in the anime until Misa showed up. He ends up sacrificing his girlfriend at the end of the first movie and uses her death to kill off another woman; Raye Penbers Wife. In the anime, he just has her hand herself. In the second movie, he meets Misa and it follows most of the anime series until the end, when Light 'kills L'. In the movie, L wrote his name in the death note before Light did, cancelling the death from light, allowing L to live about 20 days longer. In the anime, Light gets Rem to kill L and L actually dies. Lights death also appears in the second movie as well, getting shot by Matsuda and Ryuk writing his name in the Death Note. Lights actual death was by ryuk, yes, but he died in a warehouse after being found out by Near, who doesnt appear in the movies along with Matt and Mello.
