Because Meg Ryan's mother, Susan Jordan, felt chasing after a career as an actress was more important than her husband and 4 children. She left them and moved away. Then later she started selling gossipstories about her famous daughter to the media. No doubt jealous that her daughter became the actress she wanted to be, while her own career never took off.

Needless to say, at least 3 of her 4 children - including Meg Ryan and her younger brother and sister- have cut her out of their lives.
