When Walt Disney created Mickey he was first drawn in several different poses to create a guide for how Mickey should look. This is needed so other animators that help draw the Cartoons would make Mickey the same way. He tried to turn Mickey's ear and found that it depending on the angle Mickey would no longer look like the character. The ears look distorted. In the class took on Walt Disney I saw one of those early reference sheets and I have to say the ears look more like horns than ears. So no matter how Mickey turns his head the ears stay towards the audience. However they normally overlayed a part of his head to make the picture agree with the direction the head was facing. They would also tilt the head a little making the farther ear slightly above the other ear.
branding. its so that no matter what way he turns he makes the Mickey Mouse sillhouette, because its so iconically associated with disney
I belived his ears was pointed. But at the time felix the cat. Can out first. So animators was told to change his ears. So they just made it round.

That is because most mice have ears -rather large ones at that, which explain the size of Mickey's ears. Without ears, mice (and just about everything else) would be unable to hear. The only odd thing about Mickey's ears in particular are that they stay in the same position...no matter how you look at them. How he does this is a mystery indeed.
