The primary antagonist of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is Lord Voldemort - but a memory of himself when he was known by his given name of Tom Riddle.

He controlled Ginny Weasley through a diary which was slipped into one of her books by Lucius Malfoy at Flourish and Blotts. The diary was a Horcux and as soon as Ginny began to tell her secrets to the diary and put her trust into it, Tom Riddle could possess her.

Riddle, through Ginny, re-opened the Chamber of Secrets, a legacy of Salazar Slytherin, and set a Basilik upon people he considered to be unworthy to remain at Hogwarts e.g. muggle-borns or those not of pure wizarding blood.

Through Ginny, he also found out about his future self's destruction at the hands of Harry Potter. Tom then tried to return as a fully functioning person by transferring life from Ginny to himself thwarted, of course, by Harry Potter.
