If you looked at the Important Dates section in the Camp Half-Blood Wiki, under August it says August 18, 1993 - Perseus "Percy" Jackson is born to Sally Jackson and Poseidon. Now if you add 1993 with 12, you get 2005. But, since the quest took place on July, that would mean that it would be set the next year which is 2006 since Percy did not turn twelve yet. Which means that the first book took place on July 2006.
